Second concert experience. This show was at Thompson-Boling Arena, which is huge venue where the basketball games are usually played. I don't know if I'd ever been there before. Maybe a game or two. But this was much different. It was just three of us this time and we actually had seats. That was a cool experience, too.
I believe we had heard the rumors about Radiohead opening for R.E.M. on this tour. They would have been touring on Pablo Honey. Unfortunately, we did not get to see Radiohead. Fortunately, we got to see Luscious Jackson! The rumor that I heard was Radiohead had their gear stolen after a show in Denver, so they dropped out. But LJ put on a hell of a show that night, so it was great anyway. At this point, I wasn't super educated on R.E.M., but 'Monster' was out and that's what they were touring on, so I knew that much, that and the big singles previously released. I got way more into them during my sophomore year of high school. A good friend turned me on to their early stuff. Although, seems like I knew a bit more than I thought I would.
That was the only time I saw R.E.M. Looking back on the set list now, it was a great collection of music. I wish I could see them play that set now, I could appreciate it much more.
I bought a T-shirt and a program at the show. I haven't seen the shirt in years, which is a bummer. It was this kinda ugly yellow color. I actually still have the program, I just need to find it.
